Beschreibung

Short biography Charlie Jeffery’s practice is processual : he bases his work on materials found on-site, exploring their properties and altering their values. These materials are often salvaged everyday objects or detritus like dust, mud, polystyrene and cardboard, with overtones of the possibility of transformation of matter and a connection between a given object and the energy that modifies its attributes over time. In addition to his sculptures Jeffery also creates videos, drawings and performances. For him the language question remains fundamental: expression, rhythm and tension make language a supple, malleable medium bearing the stamp of exponential, sometimes absurd or unpredictable characteristics. Charlie Jeffery was born in Oxford in 1975 and is a graduate of the school of art at the University of Reading. In 2001, he took part in the Cittadellart-Fondazione Pistoletto’s residency in Biella, Italy. In 2010, he was invited with Mud Office for a residency at the Synagogue de Delme. Since He is currently in residence with Sextant et plus for Marseille 2013 city of culture, he teaches art at L’école spéciale d’architecture in Paris.
